Top Beaches in Tel Aviv

The top beaches of Tel Aviv are a magnet for sun chasers and water-based sports enthusiasts. Some offer excellent conditions for SUP; others are ideal for swimming. Beach volleyball is a favourite pastime in many areas, especially at the famous Gordon Beach.

Alma Beach

This pristine beach is the perfect sand and sea experience for those who want their chill paradise with no frills. Situated between the Dolphinarium and Jaffa, the beach does not come equipped with sunbeds or lifeguards, or anything else for that matter. But, for beautiful views of Jaffa and the blue Mediterranean, there are few places better in Tel Aviv. There’s no breakwater at this, Tel Aviv’s southernmost beach, so waves hit a bit harder than at some others. Oh, and if you have a dog, have a game of fetch at this pet-friendly beach.

The beach is famous for its hip celebrity restaurant Manta Ray if you are in the mood for a bite to eat. Many locals take in the sea all day and then enjoy a stroll along the promenade.

Banana Drum Beach (Tupim Beach)

Located just steps from the famous Dolphinarium, this central stretch of beach is one of Tel Aviv’s most tranquil and laid back. There’s a surf school for those chasing the endless summer, and a cool chill spot where Tel Aviv’s most talented drummers gather on Fridays to pound out live dance beats. The beach is one of the best spots to watch a romantic sunset with a bottle of wine.

The drum parts start Fridays from 3:00 pm, and the cost is free.

Bograshov Beach

Situated next to neighbouring Frishman Beach, this popular beach is right in the middle of the promenade. Two picturesque cafes onshore light up the beach at night, which makes the spot a favourite for romantic couples. The beach has white sand and turquoise-blue water. Families frequently come to this beach because the water is shallow and the breakwater allows safe swimming conditions.

You’ll find all the usual amenities here, including toilets, showers, and numerous sun-loungers.

Metzitzim Beach

Recently re-landscaped and renewed with convenient amenities like showers and sports facilities, Metzitzim Beach is a very attractive stretch of sand, especially for families with children, as it features a new playground and shaded areas. It has shallow waters and lifeguards on duty who give parents peace of mind. There are several bars and restaurants nearby, notably the Metzitzim Beach restaurant, which stays open from early morning until late at night.

Beach volleyball is one of the favourite sports here.

Frishman Beach (French Beach)

Frishman Beach is one of Tel Aviv’s most tourist-friendly beaches owing to its location. Noisy and sometimes a bit too busy, it’s also blessed with a host of amenities, cafés that come up to the waterline, big beach umbrellas, parking, and so on. There are several beach volleyball courts, an outdoor fitness centre, and the shallow water makes the beach perfect for families with kids.

Frishman Beach is convenient for those who want to walk along the “tayelet” (boardwalk). It’s close to a host of nearby restaurants and cafes, as well. There are also a first aid centre and lifeguards on duty at the beach.

Gordon Beach

Tel Aviv’s most famous stretch of sand, Gordon Beach is ideal in many ways. With breakwaters set in place, the sea here is calmer than in some other spots. You’ll find beach umbrellas, many volleyball courts, restaurants, diving clubs, and all the usual beach suspects. After sundown, the beach bars come alive with DJ action, dancing, and party fun way into the night.
Gordon Beach is also famous for its matkot (paddle-ball) players. You’ll also get to take in folk dancing on the boardwalk here. The Gordon Swimming Pool is a nice addition, as well.

Hatzuk Beach

A family-oriented beach, this stretch of sea and sand is known for being the only local beach that charges an entrance fee. The beach has wonderful white sand and is better kept than most others in the city. Beautifully manicured lawns, two lifeguard stations, two snack bars, chairs and sunbeds for rent, beach library, and sports activities.

Jerusalem Beach

You’ll find the Jerusalem Beach close to the Opera House, and you will appreciate the location since it gives you access to an ample parking area. The beach attracts mainly paddle-ball enthusiasts and kite surfers. It offers good conditions for swimming and has fine sand. Facilities include playgrounds and volleyball courts. There’s also a café with sand seating and several shaded areas. Lifeguards remain on duty during the winter months too. If you forgot your reading material at home, see what they offer at the beach library.

There are many options to choose from when you want to spend a day at the beach in Tel Aviv, depending on your interests. All Tel Aviv beaches are clean, well-kept, and offer a multitude of activities and dining options.
